You’ll find plenty of programs, events and activities at Virginia State Parks. Our 35 parks have thousands of campsites, hundreds of cabins, more than 500 miles of trails and convenient access to Virginia’s major waterways.
On June 15, 1936, Virginia became the first state to open an entire statewide park system on the same day. Built by the young men of the Civilian Conservation Corps, the new parks offered modern outdoor recreational conveniences while protecting significant natural resources. The original six-park system has grown to 35 parks and hosts more than 8 million visitors each year.
